Summer School for Climate-Environmental Research on the Siberian peatlands “Peatland Carbon Cycle: From Field to Publication”

September 7, 2026

09:00 - 18:00

Russian Federation, Khanty-Mansiysk city and Mukhrino Field Station (Western Siberia)

The Summer School is organized by Yugra State University in partnership with the Sino-Russian Association for Fundamental Sciences.

On behalf of Yugra State University and the UNESCO Chair "Environmental Dynamic and Global Climate Changes", We would like to inform about the following initiative for consideration under the International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development (2024–2033): International Summer School for Climate-Environmental Research on the Siberian peatlands. Venue: Mukhrino Field Station & Yugra State University, Western Siberia, Russia Dates: August 31 – September 9, 2026 Duration: 10 days Arrival/Departure: 2 days (logistics) Fieldwork: 6 days at Mukhrino Field Station Laboratory work and presentation of results: 2 days at Yugra State University Participants: early-career researchers and PhD students (up to 16 people) The Summer School covers the full research cycle — from field experiment planning and sampling to laboratory analysis, data processing (R, GIS), and joint publication in a peer-reviewed journal. The central theme is the carbon cycle in peatlands, which store ~40% of global peat carbon, but the integrated field–lab–modelling approach is valuable for any natural scientist studying global environmental processes. The Summer School is organized within the framework of the UN Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development (2024–2033). Participation fee: 25,000 RUB / 370 USD / 320 EUR / 2,500 CNY The course fee includes: - Accommodation for the entire period of the event - Local logistics, including transfer between Khanty-Mansiysk and Mukhrino Field Station - Meals throughout the program - Participation in all academic sessions, field and laboratory work - Certificate of completion issued by Yugra State University The course fee does NOT include: - International and domestic flights to/from Khanty-Mansiysk (Russia) - Consular/visa fees (if applicable) - Personal expenses and insurance To participate in the Summer School, you need to: 1.
